Natura-1-Post

I love baths! Even when I lived in a tiny unit that only had a little foot tub under the shower, I still filled it with hot water and bubbles, and squeezed myself in there. There is no other feeling of relaxation than sinking into the hot water and shutting the world out. I’m also the type of person who keeps letting the plug out and refilling the hot water so I can stay in there until I’m totally wrinkled, and forget all about the adulting I’m supposed to be doing.

Being a beauty lover, I am also a huge fan of bubble bath, bath salts, bath bombs and bath oils. Nobody likes a boring, scentless soak. Sadly though, if you read my last post, you’ll know that I have been suffering terribly with headaches and migraines over the last few months. This has meant that I’ve had to give up some of the lovely smelling concoctions that I like to add to my bath. I am especially sensitive to scents and the last thing you want when you have a pounding head is to be engulfed in a cloud of fragrance that assaults the senses. I didn’t have to give up baths, but I definitely had to take it easy on the scented additions.

While I was searching for a solution to my headaches, I was sent a generous gift from Natura Siberica: the Revitalising Siberian Bath Salts. As soon as I took off the lid I knew I would have to wait to use them and so they have been taunting me from the bathroom cupboard ever since. Until now that is.  With my headaches under control I was finally able to give these a try and I am thankful I waited and didn’t ruin the experience by using them when I wasn’t feeling well.

Natura Siberica is a brand of organic beauty products based on the unique ingredients and practices of Siberia. The philosophy behind the brand is that is that the ingredients sourced from Siberia, known as adaptogens, have remained unchanged for centuries and due to the harsh climate, “possess rare qualities which help to enhance general well-being, and when used therapeutically are renowned for slowing the aging process of the skin.” The key ingredient in Natura Siberica products is Siberian Pine Oil (Pinus Siberica Seed Oil) which is 5 times richer in vitamin E than olive oil and 3 times richer in essential fatty acids than cod liver oil. It is said to reinforce the skins natural barriers and protect against the harmful effects of wind, cold and severe environments.

The Natura Siberica website says that the Revitalizing Siberian Herbal Bath Salt is enriched with essences and oils of Wild Harvested Siberian herbs to work youth and beauty’s magic on your skin. 0% silicones, 0% BHT-BHA, 0% mineral oil, 0% PEG, 0% parabens, 0% EDTA. The best part is that for the large 600g jar, it’s only $14.99!

The directions say to use four tablespoons of salts per bath so I just poured some out into the lid to make sure I didn’t use too much, and guessed the amount I thought looked ok, about three quarters of the lid. I added the salts to the running water and I was amazing by what happened next, or more accurately, what didn’t happen. I wasn’t blown away by the scent. In the jar the fragrance is really strong, like keep it away from my face strong, but once they hit the water the scent dispersed and wasn’t overpowering at all. I climbed in and I thought I might never get out.

I topped up the water four times and think I was in there for about an hour and a half. These salts are so soothing but also quite invigorating on the mind. I find the scent quite floral, but with notes of citrus and pine. After my bath I had to drive to the airport to pick up my partner and I felt awake and refreshed, as opposed to sleepy. It’s a real luxury to have a bath in the morning (on the weekends, who has time during the week?!) or before a night out and I think the Revitalising Bath Salts are perfect for a pick me up when you want to indulge, but have things to do afterwards. I am sure they are equally good for a pre-bed soak but it’s nice to know that they won’t zonk you out completely. These are good for any time of the day.

Since that first bath I have used about half the jar. I can’t get enough of these salts and I will definitely be picking up another pack when these run out. I just love the way they make me feel, physically and mentally when I step out of the bath. It’s like having a refreshing nap before a big night out, just without the groggy sleep hangover.

I had never heard of Natura Siberica before trying these bath salts but I am keen to give more of their products a go since I have been so impressed with the quality, and the great value. You can find out more, order online or find a stockist here: http://www.naturasiberica.net.au/. They are also stocked at Chemist Warehouse so should be available everywhere. Go forth and immerse yourself in the wild herbs and flowers of Siberia.
