Lush Jan 15 Post 1

It’s really nice when I get an email from a company telling me that they have a new range of products coming out and would I like them to send me a package for review. Ummm, yes, no doubt about it. It’s especially thrilling when it’s from a company that I love already (although I like to try new brands too) because I know the products will be great and I don’t have to spend ages in-store or online deciding what to get, someone picks for me and it just arrives. I was so excited when I got such an email from Lush and they kindly posted me all of the newbies to fizz, lather and slather.

To fully introduce you to the new offerings, and not make you wait a few more weeks while I test everything, I’ve put the descriptions below straight from the information they sent me. I’ve added my thoughts to the things that I’ve tried and I’ll add more as I work my way through everything. Enjoy!

Mangnificent soap

A ripe and juicy mango soap with uplifting lemon, mandarin and neroli oils. This refreshing soap awakens the mind and body with its luxuriously fruity mango and lemony aromas.  magnificent contains a blend of dried and fresh mango. The fruit cleanses the skin and is an excellent nutritional source, containing an abundance of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants – calcium, potassium, vitamin A, E and C and several B vitamins. The bar also includes floral Tunisian neroli oil that is uplifting and toning on the skin. Twinned with the fresh Sicilian lemon and mandarin oils, it’s the perfect soap for those sluggish mornings.

Parsley Porridge soap

Clean up your act with this antibacterial soap suitable for body and face. This solid soap is the perfect combination of bacteria busting thyme and tea tree oil with deep cleansing fine milled porridge oats. The porridge oats lift dry and dead skin whilst the aloe gel cools and revives. Perfect for oily acne prone skin.

My thoughts: I’ve just finished up the Magnificent soap and will be moving on the Parsley Porridge next week. The Magnificent soap has a really fruity smell but it’s definitely not a traditional mango scent. It’s more citrusy with an almost bitter note. It’s a very refreshing scent and although it contains the floral neroli oil, I wouldn’t say it was overly flowery. This is a nice soap but like most lush soaps it doesn’t last too long due to it’s soft texture.

I didn’t think I was going to like the Parsley soap as it had a really strong herbal scent, but I ended up loving it. The scent was quite subtle in the shower and it definitely didn’t hang around on my skin. This soap cleaned very well, and left my oily body skin feeling squeaky clean and refreshed. It’s not one I would naturally pick up if I went into Lush, but I’m really glad I tried it. It’s a winner for the guys too, not too girly with a nice unisex fragrance.

Zest hair gelly

Self-preserving orangey hair jelly that gives both your hair and mood a boost. Made with a simple formula full of zesty ingredients, this self-preserving hair jelly will give your hair great hold, without leaving it feeling greasy. The fragrance contains sweet wild orange oil from the fruit we eat; pettigrain oil from the twigs of the bitter orange tree; and neroli oil from the flowers of the bitter orange tree. There is also moisturising and thickening carrageenan extract in there, from Irish moss seaweed, to help create texture.

My thoughts: I gave this to my sister Lizzie to try, I’ll report back once she’s had a chance to use it. It’s got a very strong citrus/floral scent though, I’m curious to know if that lasts on the hair. Update: Liz didn’t like it. She said that it really did nothing for her flyaways. In a funny twist, a guy friend at her work told her that ‘pomade is for hold, gel is for shine,’ so she passed it along to him. You learn something new every day!

D’Fluff shaving cream

A fluffy shaving cream made with FRESH strawberries, coconut oil, maple and corn syrups and egg whites. Fresh strawberries are whisked together with moisturising Fair Trade Cocoa Butter from the FUNDOPO collective (in the Dominican Republic) to create a gorgeous bit of fluff that leaves you silky smooth. This marshmallowy treat contains coconut oil, maple and corn syrups, and egg whites to create a light texture that makes defluffing a dream. The fragrance contains comforting Fair Trade vanilla absolute, sweet wild orange oil and rose absolute. Suitable for both lady’s legs and men’s faces.

My thoughts: This is the cutest little pot of body wash/shaving cream. I think it’s a bit of a gimmick but I love it. It smells really nice and girly, not sure that a man would like this product, and I’m taken with the gorgeous pink colour and whipped texture. Love this for a little twist on the boring task of leg shaving.

Update: I HATE THIS!!! I’m sorry Lush but after taking this to my legs in the bath, I absolutely hate it. It doesn’t give you a nice thick lather like a shaving cream, instead it disintegrates when it hits any moisture and becomes very patchy so you have big blobs in some places and nothing in other spots. It’s not slippery like soap, it’s more sticky and it leaves your skin feeling tacky. Finally, worst of all, the tacky nature of it left the most disgusting, hairy ring on my bath. So gross. Do not buy this, urgh, just no!

African Paradise Body Conditioner

A heavenly in-shower body conditioner packed with African oils, butters and fruits. A self-preserving in-shower body conditioner full of conditioning ingredients from SLush Funded projects in Africa, such as: softening Fair Trade shea butter and Fair Trade moringa oil from Ghana to brighten the skin; cooling Fair Trade fresh aloe vera from Kenya; and ylang ylang from Ghana in the fragrance blend. We are also starting to use ingredients from new SLush Fund projects, such as baobab oil from a women’s cooperative in Northern Ghana; and marula oil from South Africa.

My thoughts: This is the same premise as the Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner but if you find that scent overpowering or offensive, this is for you. It’s a subtler scent than the Ro’s and it’s much more unisex. I love the way you rub this on in the shower and then rinse it off as I hate applying body lotion and having sticky skin. This is an ingenious product and although I do like the rose scent of Ro’s, I think this scent will appeal to a wider range of people.
