Long Luscious Locks by Irresistible Me Hair Extensions

If you have seen my Instagram in the last few days you will know that I braved the hairdresser and opted for a pretty drastic change when I returned from my beach holiday last week. Gone are the long locks and now I am sporting a cute (and rather short) ‘do. Before I decided on a bit of a change however, I received an email from a company I had never heard of, Irresistible Me, asking if I would like to review their clip in hair extensions. Now more than ever I am glad I accepted as I realize how easy it is to add a little volume and length whenever I feel like it.

Irresistible Me specialize in 100% Human Indian Remy hair extensions. Remy means that the hair has uni-lateral cuticle direction or that the hair follicles all go in one single direction. Remy hair is collected in a method in which all hair strands stay aligned in the natural direction it grew (i.e. holding the hair in a ponytail and cutting), top at top, and ends at ends, to maintain the natural texture pattern and cuticle direction.

Irresistible me offers a number of different products including clip in extensions, ponytails, wigs, styling tools and hair accessories, and they ship worldwide. They have two main types of extensions, Silky Touch and Royal Remy. Silky Touch is the more affordable option with each extension tapering out to be slightly thinner at the ends. Royal Remy is the premium line and promises to be the same weight right to the tips of each extension. They come in 12 colours, 6 lengths and 3 weights. I chose the Royal Medium Brown, 20 inches, 200g (USD$289).

My package arrived within the week and was also tracked which offers peace of mind, especially as these extensions are a bit of an investment.

One of the great features of this product is the little sample, seen above on the right. If you open the individual piece only and discover that the color is not a good match, you can return it. Luckily for me it was a perfect match. These extensions can also be colored, styled and even cut, just like your own hair. As they are human hair, you will also need to wash them every couple of uses, especially if you use styling products.

Each piece clips into the roots of your natural hair with these easy to use snaps. I was amazed by how secure they felt once they were in, even the thick four clip weft, which has some serious weight. I never felt that it was in danger of slipping out.

As I have said before, I am no hair expert and I am certainly not confident with styling my own hair. So, I did what any girl would do in my situation, I called for reinforcements. Together my friend Cis and I discussed how best to insert the extensions and style them together with my own hair. Once we had a plan she got started and below you can see the way we went about it. This procedure worked really well and I think I could successfully repeat the steps the next time I want to put in the extensions on my own.

Start by sectioning the first piece of hair, at the nape of the neck. Don’t make this section too small as you need something for the clips to grip on to.

I had just washed my hair and Cis commented that it was probably too silky smooth (a bad thing in this case) to hold the extensions securely, so she lightly backcombed/teased the roots.

A little squirt of hairspray for extra gripability.

The position the weft, slide the clips down onto the teased roots and snap the clips in place.

Since I have fairly long hair (or did at the time) we agreed that it would be easier to curl each section while the rest of the hair was pinned up. Spray each piece with hairspray, making sure to incorporate natural hair with the extensions.

You can use any styling tool you would usually use on your natural hair.

Once you have curled all the hair, let down the next section and repeat the process. We used the two 3 clip wefts at the bottom followed by the largest weft, the 4 clip piece.

Section, tease, spray.

The 4 clip weft should be clipped in just above the ears as it is the longest piece.

Continue spraying and curling each section.

After the 4 clip weft Cis clipped in three of the 2 clip ones. One on each side on my head and one at the back. There are also 1 clip wefts which can go even higher, but we agreed that I had enough volume and length by this stage.

After curling the last three extensions Cis curled my natural hair over the top to hide the wefts.

She then finger combed through it all to make sure all the hair was incorporated together and applied some glossing spray.

Here is the final result!

On closer inspection I cannot make out any of the wefts. I think it looks really seamless and I like the effect of the reddish ends of my natural hair. I felt amazing with these in, especially as I have quite thin hair. Admittedly it was rather heavy on my head, but it wasn’t pulling or snagging my hair. I actually think the weight adds a little to the glamour as I found myself tossing my hair almost in slow motion. I felt gorgeous and confident, even if I only went to the local burger joint.

A word on getting them out: they came out really, really easily! I just slid them out, brushed through each one and popped them back into the box ready for the next use. Brushing out the teasing was another matter, but beauty is pain, right?

I would not hesitate to recommend these clip in hair extensions and I will definitely be using mine again for my next special occasion.
